About Me
Amer Alkhatib (b 1982) is a visual artist living and working in Vancouver, British Columbia. Having immigrated to Canada from the Middle East in his teens, he developed an awareness of cultural symbols and an appreciation for their ability to tell stories that transcend language and connect people. A graduate of Concordia University in Montréal, Québec, he launched a career in graphic design, which he continues to pursue today.
It is easy to see how design training has influenced his art work, from the floods of colour to the details of typographic styles, layouts, and experiments in scale. But it’s in the object choices that the stories unfold. Amer is driven to document artifacts that are recognizable by most but aesthetically appreciated by few; and in doing so he invites the viewer to take pause and reflect on their own experiences and stories.
